I have done several mosaic murals with high school students, both making the
tiles and using recycled tiles.Ask your principal first if he is willing to
pay for materials and having the mosaic installed. Only then, is it do-able
for your situation. There are two ways to go about this project, one is the
direct method and the other is indirect. With grade school children I would
get cement board panels, draw out a design from the kids (brainstorm), have
groups work on areas gluing tiles (we just used Elmers) then grout. Have
maintenance mount the panels with big molly screws into the brick surface. Use
a molding to finish edges. When I do this with high school it takes a good
Mosaics done by kids in Fresno line the freeway on Hwy 41. They are installed
by Cal-trans for the City of Fresno. They are wonderful to see if you are
heading through that direction on your trip.
