JBM taught at the Adult Workshops at the Oklahoma Arts Institute a few years
ago (mostly art teachers) and he was wonderful (I think he's been there a
few times by now - I wasn't in his class, I took woodcut with Karen Kunc).
The pieces he got out of his students were amazing. One of the student's
works was ripped very thin and hung from the ceiling with cable. It looked
like torn handmade paper. Fortunately, there is a granite quarry near the
park so they had all been able to choose their own stones. Shortly after,
there was an exhibit of his work in a private gallery (gallery on the first
floor, studio on the second) in OKC. WOW - in person it looks completely
different than in photos (to me)...and the big disks that rock at the
slightest pressure..that you can sit on like a sideways rocking chair! And
the ones you can run your finger across and make lovely musical sounds!! I
hope in DC you'll see the video of the working process. Wish I could be
there. Maybe next year.
