interesting 6th grade ideas

I haven't been able to check my email for a while, so I am not sure how
long ago you asked for 6th grade ideas. But anyway, here is my 2 cents:

We (5th grade) are studying Eric Carle and Denise Fleming and their unique
methods of illustrating their books. The kids are working either alone or
in pairs to create short books using the same illustrating methods. We
first brainstormed as a group ideas/plots/themes for short children's
stories. They then created their story, illustrated it, bound the book and
then donated them to our school library for everyone to enjoy. The kids
love the idea of creating their own books that will become a permanent part
of the school's collection - it is like leaving their own legacy!
