Laurie's examples of Persian and Mogul miniatures and netsuki's are good
ones. Isn't it the case that magic charms derive some of their power from
being small enough to hide? Do these count as art? Certainly many of them
are beautifully carved. Hugeness seems to be a property that human beings
as such respond to; when power comes from smallness I think we need to have
more culture-specific knowledge to get the message. Does this seem right?
