Rotten teaching day

Dear Ms Manner,
I, too, teach four double periods per day with no
break... opps, I forgot my relaxing 20 minute duty free
lunch picking up scraps with one hand while chomping an
apple with the other. I like my situation because it is
so awful that only the bold, brave and committed ever
bid on positions at our alternative high school and I
have wide latitude in what I teach and how I teach.
Lehrer-freiheit is hard to find these days.
Sorry to hear about your colleague's picque. You, of
course, are absolutely right to remind her that student
projects are student projects. If it's any consolation,
and at the risk of bringing a flame war down on my head
(go ahead, Dear Reader, I find need-to-get-a-lifers
funny), the episode makes me think of why the vulgar
word 'bitch' is appropriately applied to some human
