Great Elementary Project - Monster Trucks

My brother-in-law has a elementary school child thats crazy about monster
trucks. The site on the web is something like: Gravediggers. com . I drew a
drawing of a monster truck and made it into a transparency.
All students in grades first through second, and grades fourth and fifth were
to come back this week and finish up old drawings and paintings.
I held up old work in first and second grade and asked the class if the
student completed airplanes in the clouds (The unit was a drawing
concentration on machines: trucks, cars and airplanes). They were to complete
their airplane paintings and then do a painting of monster trucks. With an
overhead projector drawing of a monster truck minus the name on the car and
the name on the flag, the project took off like a hurricane. I told them when
they were done with their painting of airplanes, they were to draw and paint
their monster truck. Please give it a name and a flag. They were to paint it
anyway they choose.
Fourth and fifth graders were finishing up 1/2 magazine cut portrait
drawings. They had to cut one half of the face and draw the other half with
pencil. While I went around the room suggesting to students on how to perfect
their magazine drawings, they were totally engrossed in drawing these monster
trucks without a drawing lesson!!!!!!
All drawings were on view outside the art room and would you believe it, the
teachers loved the monster trucks, with no comment on some past still life
paintings also exhibited by the fifth grades.
