After years of doing emergency lesson plans I now teach a long term lesson
that students know what to do to complete.. this way if i am ever out in a
real emergency students have had instruction and know what to do. Many
Subs have left notes thanking me for this. Lessons are often drawings or
designs on a grid that students begin, keep in folders and work on only if
i happen to be out... which is very rare... however I never have to worry
about last min coverage or detailed lessons or materials should I be out.

As I approach the end of a report period or semester, i use that back up
lesson to give me a break when grading or art show time.
Hope this is helpful\
