How to have MS students finish projects

The amount of responses to my middle school question was reassuring. Many
of you asked if I could let the kids take them home. Yes, many have asked
if they could take them home. In fact, I let a few kids take them home -
and they failed to bring them back on the day we had art! That was
frustrating, since we only have art 1x a week. Yea, they probably should
be mature enough to remember, but they obviously don't. Should I take
this risk - or the risk of having them lose it?
Another thing some of you recommended was to have a Finish up day. I have
done this in the past, and it probably is something I should do for this
Any further comments are appreciated.
Oh, by the way, maybe I should have mentioned that the other art teacher
is next door (with only a temporary wall divided inbetween) and my
students could hear the movie Space Jam being played in the other art
class on Friday. I know that I'm a lot more strict than her. I don't
think they're used to being pressed that much.
