re squeezing blood

three schools about 550 kids
30 minutes twice a week for K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades
60 min once a week for 4th and 5th

Some days I have 9 classes. The worst time is one afternoon of 5
30minute, back-to-back classes: 1st, then K, 3rd, 1st and 3rd!

The rub is the traveling uses up lots of time. I'm at a school for one
class of 30 minutes, but because I start my day there one day(that uses
1 hour and 35 minutes) and end my day there on another(1 hour and 30
min), I lose a lot of valuable "organizing supplies" time, "putting up
displays" time, etc. I don't have a room there--I teach art in the
classroom, so I hang out at the reading center and yak, or browse the
library, print out computer documents. This is a three-hour waste of
time and I often spend many hours at my "real" schools after everyone
else has gone home just trying to keep up.
