When I went to highschool the artroom was my second home. We NEVER critiqued.
Then I went on to college and felt the sting of not being able to verbalize
what I or others were doing. I was at a real disadvantage! It was a hard and
mostly painful uphill battle to learn this in college! I think it is a big
mistake not to teach and hold critiques throughout all the highschool years.
I am not talking about holding college type critiques--but more like 'how to
use basic visual vocabulary' , making students aware of visual clues and how
to verbalize them.
