Questions about multicultural art

As a former elementary and middle school art teacher I am
wondering how what people at these grade levels are doing to deal
with multiculturalism in ways that go beyond working directly from art
objects from different cultures. I did my share of replication-style
projects when I was teaching at this level, but incorporating
multiculturalism in art curriculums has changed over the years.

---Are you able to impact students' understanding of cultures by
engaging them in the context that surrounds the making of the art
objects?

--- Have you been involved in many cross-cultural investigations?

--- Have you been able to take multiculturalism and engage your
students in making social changes around significant issues through
art?

--- Is it realistic to do the above given the time constraints that you
are operating under?

I now teach art education majors at a university --- I would like them to
have a good sense of how teachers are handling multiculturalism in
their classrooms.

I look forward to hearing what people are doing.
