Dear Aimee:
I agree; I think we should be inclusive throughout the year. One
approach you can take is to choose works of art from a number of
cultures and times that share the same theme.
On inclusion of the handicapped; one example:
I had a great photo of Frida Kahlo in a wheelchair, posed with her
doctor and her portrait of him, that I used when we explored her work
in class. I think we can reach many audiences by including such
examples and not belaboring the point.
