RE : Medieval Art
We have been focusing on Medival art all this Year. I will list units by
grade level and also say that all classes saw the film "CASTLE" also by
David MacCaughley(?), and we also took slides from the Metropolitan
Museums Arms and Armour exhibition and showed these to all grade levels.
Here we go : K : They made armour, sandwichboard style festooned with
found objects, paint and glitter, 1-2: Helmets from paper machie'balloons
and glittered beans as rivets, 3: banners from burlap, 4: castles
complete with land platforms and working towers and portcullis', 5-6:
large paper machie' horses that will hold two children for a joust(set of
3) 7-8: large murals depicting scenes from the film and slides and other
resources we shared with the children. Other teachers are also involved
and there will be a play, "St. george and the Dragon", children are
learning juggling in Gym classes and tumbling, in music they are
collecting school gossip and putting together a minstrel group to "Sing
the News" etc. In May we will have a school wide show of all these
activities. Also our 7-8 graders are making coats of arms and reseaching
for this purpose. I hope you find something you can use in this list.
