oh dear. i know *exactly* what she's going through. i have four piercings,
and i was reluctant to remove them on the job for some time. what i realized
is the resounding fact that schools are social institutions. the community
creates your job and pays you. if this community accepts piercings, that'd be
great. but if they don't, whats more important? the position or your
piercings? to me, the kids are most important. it took me a long time to
swallow this issue. i am comforted by the fact that i have two hidden
piercings, which i never have to take out. it can be my little secret.
its very hard to deal with society's misconceptions... like basing ability on
appearance. but until we can make this world better, we need to abide by the
rules so that we can acheive the status needed to change things.
