To help with 5th and 6th grade behavior I have a red card system
similiar to soccer. I'm the ref, and if a kid is out of control I give
them a red card (just a piece of red paper 3x5). They keep it next to
them and if the behavior improves I pick it up and it's forgotten, if it
continues I have them write on it what they did, what they should do
instead, and send it home to be returned with a parent signature then
filed. If its a difficult class, the specials teacher work out an
agreement with the classroom teacher. Kids not receiving a red card
during the weeks rotation will build each day time to allow them to have
an extra recess on Friday. Those receiving a red card will not be able
to participate. Don't ever underestimate the power of recess. Ruth
