I teach an advanced 2-D course. Even though we have a very structured
curriculum, there is still a range of abilities and levels to teach. I
create more long range multi-step projects for them that allow for their
choice of medium. HOwever, the lessons are still very structured. We
have an assessment program in place that is working extremely well. The
students are expected to meet certain standards and evaluate their
projects based upon how well they met or exceeded these standards. I
tell advanced students who are "full of themselves" that talent has to
be applied. A student with much less talent but a good work ethic can
out perform them hands down. Art is visual. IF there is nothing
impressive to look at, there is no success. If you want to give me your
email address, I can email you a sample of one of my advanced level
assessment worksheets.
