i'm only an undergrad right now, and i unfortunately did not see the andy
special on e!. but i am so glad you are even considering showing it... i
agree that the artists personal life is a direct contributor to their work.
knowing these details, even at most basic, can aid in understanding.

we both know that homosexuality should not even be an issue, but its the
community who supports our classrooms, and people, i'm very sad to say,
sometimes get the wrong idea about this natural preference. about drugs...
what better way to learn the dangers of them than to see how they affected
someone? but again, schools are social institutions.

my overall view is this: showing the film or not depends on the climate of
your community and students. conservative, liberal? are your students ready
for this, are they emotionally and mentally mature enough? in high school i
would have been very excited at seeing the film, personally.

best wishes. please let me know what you decide and how you arrived at that
conclusion. it enriches me as a growing art educator.
