Greetings. This is my first time posting, so hope I have done this
correctly. I am an undergrad student at PSU in Elementary Education. I am
taking an ArtED class this semester and our final assignment is to select
an artist and image and teach it to the class (We don't have to teach
art--just use an image based in art). I have chosen Maya Lin and the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial and plan to gear my lesson to 5th grade. I
thought I'd introduce the topic through Eve Bunting's book "The Wall" and
after discussion, have the students imagine what they might leave as a
momento at the wall. Then they would write a short story describing their
choice and why they chose it. Has anyone ever taught a lesson on Lin/VVM
and do you have any suggestions/resources for me? Any help from seasoned
educators would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Josetta Lichty
