One of the best drawing lessons I do with my middle school students is to be
the model. You can't imagine what fun they have to see me up on the table
going through a variety of poses. Of course, I give a very strong intro on
styles, techniques, and examples of many artist through history to get them
into the mode. Once they get going, I can easily scan the room from my lofty
perch and offer suggestions as they are working . You can go in so many
directions with materials and final projects. However, nothing can be better
than putting up all the final examples and viewing the "art teacher" as the
subject of "a serious art project!" All the students can share in the fun and
hopefully, learn something in the discussions that follow the lesson.
