Lack of art in Hawaiian schools

I was upset to read that in Hawaiian schools there are nolonger any art
classes and that only occassionally a specialist is brought in to teach an
art lesson. This is such a shock to me since when I was studying I was
greatly influenced by Lois Thomasson Horne of the Kamehameha Schools. She
wrote a wonderful book about the arts in this school, and had fantastic
photographs of students work. Does anyone know if Lois T. Horne is still
active? She is probably in her seventies. She was a pioneer in the child
centered movement, being an artist herself she enriched this concept, and
made it meaningful and not just a doodling activity. Sincerely, Diane L.
