To all members--

I am an art teacher who teaches Advanced Placement Studio. The students are
scheduled with Fine Art I and Fine Art II students simultaneously, so often
the A. P. Students have to function independently. I have, however given them
an assignment in which they must communicate with another student somewhere,
establish a communication via e-mail, exchange descriptions of the view from
their window, paint or draw that view from the written description, and
finally exchange photographs of the view to confirm the degree of success (or
lack of it) in conveying the description in verbal and visual terms.

The goals of the project are the following. 1) That the students will
communicate with students from other parts of the country/world. 2) That the
students will have to complete an exchange of information through barriers of
distance, and culture. 3) That the students learn the similarities and
differences involved from one area of the country/world to another. 4) That
visual communication is used as a tool to convey information from place to
place, and culture to culture. 5) That students see art as a means of
creative visual exchange across place and cultures.

Please respond if you have students or know of someone who has students who
might be interested in such an exchange. The students do not have to be of
the same age, though, I think the best range might exist between 13 and 20,
and might include middle school/Jr. high school/high school/and
freshman--sophomore students in college. A responsible adult artist/art
interested person would be an exciting possibility as well.

I look forward to hearing from all those interested.

Thank you,

John
