Late to Art Class

re: I do have 6th graders coming to class late every day and have been
wondering how to handle this. Also they come to my class to take them
out for testing, to take them to meetings, and to take them back to
their class to talk to them about things.
I teach middle school and I do plan to discuss this with the principal.
They miss the whole explanation to a new project sometimes.

Teresa, you might want to talk with the individual teacher first. We go
through this new problem periodically, especially when we get new teachers.
Several years ago I had a principal who mandated that any child who was
not performing up to standards on his/her other subjects would be tutored
during art, music, pe and media classes. What a message to send about the
importance of those subjects in his mind. That didn't last long because
parents got into the issue. I expressed my opinion up front, but it didn't
make any difference. I try to keep a good working relationship with all
classroom teachers and most will work with you. I have two that I am going
to have to talk with at present. Good luck. Ann
