Laura,
I am teaching art and the computer at the secondary level. We currently are
using 20 macs in our own lab. We have a course is graphic design that is all
computer based. The students do projects such as designing a black and white
ad, poster design, product labels, compact disc designs, cartooning, etc. I am
currently teaching four sections of
this class, it is very popular.
I view the computer as just another tool in which to work. It is not replacing
any other medium at this point, just another option for the students.
They do not use clip art, or scanned art, unless it is one of their own
original photos. All of their designs are original.
Actually, because they can make changes and see them right away, I find that my
students are making more decisions about their work.
As for the programs we use, they are Macromedia FreeHand, Fractal Painter, and
Adobe Photoshop.
I hope this helps you in your quest for computers.
Sheila
