Carolyn Roberts' recent post about the funny school absences notes
that their parents sent in with their students adds further evidence as to
why learning correct standard English is so important. I would assume
some of the parents do not know English very well and they are doing the
best they can by sounding out words they don't know well by
using phonetics, sounding them out.
BUT, English is complex and doesn't often work that way. As we all recall
in primary school there were all these exceptions to spelling rules and
I enjoyed reading these. Thanks Carolyn for sharing.
