Shoes as collateral for tools

The shoe idea is great! I would love to use it for x-acto knives and clay
tools which always mysteriously disappear and are dangerous!

In Hawaii where i live now, it wouldn't work since the kids always run
around barefoot, but in my previous teaching situation (high school in New
Orleans), it would have been perfect! I'll have to think of something else
to take from my 3rd - 6th graders--any suggestions?
