Just thought I'd let you know that McDonald's is very
interested in art - thier headquarters in OakBrook Illinois
has an extensive collection of contemporary art - they
will allow tours for students. Unfortunately they don't fund
school arts! We just went through a referendum for increased
taxes last year and fortunately it passed and we not only
saved our art program, but increased the contact time we see
students. I can only tell you that you need to be an advocate
for art and collect as many articles that link the importance
of a good art education with the development of thinking. Not
everyone knows how good we really are, we can't stay in our
rooms cleaning paint brushes, but MUST get involved with the
community at large so they can become educated to our import-
ance for the development of the whole person. Visual thinking,
creative problem solving, co-operative learning - WE DO IT -
and we need to tell more people what we do - we don't just
paint turkeys for Thanksgiving or eggs at Easter!
