This is a late response to those who were asking about cheap restaurants in
New Orleans, if there are still some of you out there who haven't left yet
for the Big Easy. (1) An infamous, not-to-be-missed, and very inexpensive
place: Cafe du Monde -- excellent for breakfast or late night (under $5, as
I recall, for coffee and yummy biegnets). (2) I can't remember the name for
sure but I think it's Old Dog New Trick -- a great, modestly priced,
nearly-vegetarian restaurant (some fish, as I recall), located on a little
alley-type walkway behind the police station. (3) Haven't tried this but
just saw a write-up in the Los Angeles Times: Chicory Farm Cafe --
"turn-of-the-century neoclassical house in the city's Uptown section ...
features 'Creole vegetarian' cuisine... Dinner entrees are priced at $8 to
$11. 723 Hillary St, NO (504) 866-2325."

Have a great time -- wish I was going to be there!
