In Los Angeles, one of the car capitals of the country, there have been a
number of exhibitions that have featured cars been transformed into works of
art. In the spring of 1996, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art had an
exhibition, "David Hockney: A Drawing Retrospective," which featured the
artist transforming a BMW and displayed on the museums' plaza. Another
exhibition, "Earthly Paradise..." at the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery featured
international artist Hiro Yamagata using older models of Mercedes Benz as his
canvas. An finally, the Peterson Museum of Automotive History (part of the Los
Angeles County Natural History Museum) has on permanent display a car that was
transformed by children. These example may serve as inspiration for the
students.
