Schedules: I found it very interesting to learn about other art teachers
schedules so here's mine. Our schedules are done by county office
personell. In the summer we receive a copy of what we will have. It is
generally the same from year to year. I teach 30 classes each week, 40
min., 10 min between each. Classes begin in the morning at 8:15 and end
at 1:30. Then art, music and PE are assigned a "SIA" duty where we go
into a classroom from 2:00 - 3:00 to work centers with a classroon
teacher. Our "planning time is before school and after school. I serve
about 675 students each week, each day K-5th, which jumps:5th, 3rd, 2nd,
4th, lunch, K, 1st. I travel between three schools, traveling during the
day on three days. In one school I have a great room, in one school I
have the corner of the gym, and in the other school I have 2/3 of a
mobile unit, shared with ESOL and speech (not at the same time). I began
really frustrated but soon learned that it was better to make it work
than complain (10 yrs.). I try to generally use the same materials with
all classes. If we are painting, we are all painting. I have been
exploring the idea of art centers recently and find that they work well
for student exploration. I can vary the centers slightly using the same
materials for grade levels. Well, there's mine!
