Re: How do we do our special's schedule?

On an evening in the summer (when we know who will be coming to our
school and what percentage of time they will teach there, i.e., we need
1.2 art teachers, 1.4 gym, etc.) we get together at about 6:00 and order
pizza, soda (no booze). In attendance are the special area teachers, a
member of the admin.(principal or VP) and one volunteer reg. ed.
teacher. We stay until it is finished. It is a nightmare. Sometimes
we end at about midnight but then it is all finished. All reg. ed
teachers get to write their desires and we read through them then start
working. We try to give most people what they want, sometimes at the
sacrifice of our own desires (I'd love several grade level classes in a
row). We know we all have to give in a little and there are always some
complaints but the principal and grade level teacher usually leave early
shaking their heads in disbelief at the huge undertaking the scheduling
requires. (I know if I am not there I won't get prep time when I need
it most and a few other desires that make teaching art more fun and less
stressful). Good luck.
