At the end of the last six weeks of my high school Art One class, we make
books from all the work in our portfolios for the year. The students have
a choice of making a set of single signature books in a binder of some
sort, a Japanese bound book, or an accordian book. We use odd pieces of
matboard, donated by a frame shop for covers..If works are too big to use
and too precious to cut down, I reduce them on the xerox machine in black
and white. If students want to spend some money, I send them to a local
printers which will do color xerox. They are very proud of their books and
talk about them when they become advanced art students.

"Paper Pleasures" by Faith Shannon ISBN 0-8021-1233-1
and "Cover to Cover " -Creative Techniques for Making Beautiful Books,
Journals and
Albums by Shereen LaPlantz ISBN 0-9333337274-81-X are both
excellent references.
