Concerning your recent posting, I've never it called Expeditionary Education,
but the concepts of educational travel, adventure travel, and experiential
education have been around a long time. If piloted by Outward Bound, I would
imagine the type of trip would be outdoor/adventure oriented with some sort of
stress-challenge component? Sounds like fun. I've heard of private schools
frequently taking students on outdoor expeditions as a regular part of the
curriculum....
Who will lead the expeditions - teachers, or outdoor professionals? My wife and
I have supervised outdoor programs for several years, and will be out in the
woods again this summer. But It's getting hard for "avocational" leaders like
us to continue working, due to the increasing demands of insurers.
I'd be interested in more information about what your school is going to try. I
wouldn't mind writing a proposal and setting up an independent summer contract
with my own school district.
