I'm new on this chat area and grateful to know we can reach out and talk.
Sometimes it is lonely since we are just usually "one" in each school and
considered a bit "different (thankgoodness) from the rest of the teachers.
I teach art in an elementary school(700) on a cart from room to room. The
school is in a high income area (I don't live there) with students who are
highly motivated(public school) so it is a great place to work. But hard
work to keep it exciting, fun and still teaching everything that goes along
with the job. Most have traveled world wide and seen the best of the museums
so they are interested in learning... yes I have taught in intercity schools
too. So I know how lucky I am...! Because of income, we don't qualify for
any extra federal funding so the budget is slim so I spend many free
time..did I say free time? I mean late into the night searching for grants
I can use. This is where I need help. I am working on a $15,000 grant to
produce "Living Art" where each 5th grade will select a painting, paint the
sets and become the subjects. And then come to life with a fun script that
might catch a bit of conversation and why the artist might have chosen them
to the subject matter for the painting. The music teacher is helping
because I want to educate the students to the fact that music and art
reflected life. The paintings will cover a wide range of time and
culture..Has anyone done anything like this and if so, I NEED all the help
I can get. The art historians at the college will come in to lecture on each
painting, the local little theatre will help with sets, stage dancing and
movement, along with help from the art museum and culture center and anyone
else to help. So help or any better ideas...thanks, anne st.john
