[teacherartexchange] Alternate project help

Hi-

I need some helping coming up with some ideas for an alternate project for my classes.

For the past three years my school has had a Talent show/Fund Raiser
and all the proceeds go to a group of students that are going to El
Salvador in July to build a school (50 students in total) I teach at a
high school

Every year I have my students to make artwork to be auctioned off (last
year we raised $5000.00) This year my students are going to be making
clay mugs. However due to the attendance issues some of my students
have I've told the kids that if they are not in class on Monday for the
instructions they will be given an alternate assignment to work on and
will not be allowed to make mugs (I shudder at having to give the
extensive instructions all day on Monday let alone having to repeat
them the next day because someone decided to sleep in) However students
with legitimate absences will be allowed to come in on Wednesday and
receive the instructions.

However I need some ideas for alternative assignments. The assignment
can only go for a week. Usually we do a drawing that focuses on the
people or wildlife of the country the kids are going to but I am
getting bored with that and thought I would look to you for an infusion
of new ideas.

Thanks in advance!
