The New York State Art Teachers Association Region 7 & SUNY New Paltz Art
Education Department have organized an Art Teachers Professional Development
Conference Day on April 12, 2008. The theme for this conference is "Connections
thru Contemporary Art". This 6-hour event will examine how contemporary art can
have an increasingly important role in the education of young artists. Visit for

Joe Fusaro, who serves on the National Education Advisory Council for Art21,
will be the morning keynote speaker. Wangechi Mutu, a prominent contemporary artist,
will be the afternoon keynote speaker.
Through presentations by education staff of regional museums, prominent
practicing artists, teacher-led workshops, and roundtable discussions you will
be able to explore how Contemporary Art can offer unique opportunities for your
students to experience connections with the world around us. The following is a
partial list of museums and organizations that will be participating:
