[teacherartexchange] Pre-Painting

My 7th Grade students are about to paint on their final Mandala Records,
however we just started our color theory unit and they painted a color wheel
sheet just to get them acquainted with holding the brush and painting in the
lines. None of them have really ever painted before so I am apprehensive about
having them now jump into painting their Mandala's after only one session with
paint.
Does anyone have any mini-pre-activity suggestions they can do before we
actually get to the final product? Just to get them more comfortable with the
brushes, detail, and paint itself.
