One thing my students really enjoy is shadow tracing. The light has to
be right, and it can't be windy. You lay a drawing board with white
paper underneath a fern, or some sort of plant that casts a shadow on
the ground. The closer you are to the plant the clearer the shadow, of
course, so low to the ground plants work best. I have my kids trace the
shadow with either a sharpie or a felt tip colored pen, or pencil. You
can do all sorts of things to this tracing, treating it as a positive
negative design. They are beautiful!
