Re: [teacherartexchange] Tomorrow is my final group!

Thanks Amy,
Unfortunately we have to give them rules to copy and essays to write. This
is part of our schoolwide discipline plan. We are not allowed to issue
detentions unless a student has had a verbal warning, copied the rules and written an
essay. I think that it's ridiculous at the middle school level because they
really could care less, but my hands are tied on that one. I start off
wanting to get the kids motivated, trying to share my excitement with them, but soon
enough, they have drained me of it. I guess I'm just not sure of the best
way to handle the situations as they arrise...such as if they enter my room and
start running around hitting each other, or if they continue to talk after
I've asked for their attention, or if they continue to get out of their seats to
play around while they should be working. I haven't figured out the best way
to deal with those situations...a way that is effective yet doesn't cause me
to interrupt the class or lose my cool.
