Thanks, Diane.
   We haven't changed anything else--same phone number, same ISP, haven't
even dealt with the DSL or router at this point. When we connect from the
kitchen phone, everything is fine. When we connect to the jack--no dial tone
(except if we connect a phone). We've tried it on both computers (a Mac and a
dell) and in both the line and phone ports. Too weird!
