Are we crazy or what? We have been using dial up, and have a very
unaesthetic connection with phone line trailing from our kitchen phone through the
house and into our computer room. We decided it is time to get rid of this messy
arrangement. We have an old phone jack in the basement, and we fished line
through the wall and up to the computer room, connected to the phone jack.
Well, though the jack works fine for phones, it won't give the computers a dial
tone. We thought maybe the wire we used was bad, so we tried a second one
again tonight--same thing. Is it possible that old phone jacks don't work for
computers?
