To clarify this a bit: Audubon did the original paintings (which were
actually watercolor studies often collaged onto new backgrounds), with
occasional assistance on the foliage and background. He would transport
them to England, where professional engravers rendered detailed prints
that could be reproduced and sold; the engravings were hand-colored.
