I owe this quick, fun assignment to Doug Lowe, recently retired from
Holland HS in MI. All that is required is two pices of 4" x 8" scarp mat
board per student and Elmer's glue.

PODUNK SCULPTURE
You have just received word that the Chamber of Commerce of Podunk, USA
is looking for a symbol to represent their city. They would like a sculpture
like
Calder's "La Grande Vitesse" in Grand Rapids, or the "Picasso Sculpture" in
Chicago.
LIKE Grand Rapids, they want to display this sculpture and put the symbol
on letterheads, street signs, garbage cans, and be central to the"Dunker's
Festival."
UNLIKE Grand Rapids, Podunk does not have much money to commission a famous
artist nor can they invest in expensive materials(actually they do have two
4'x8' sheets of plywood that they have saved from the remodeling project at
city hall last year that they want to use).
You have decided to enter the competition. The entry rules say you must:
1. Submit a scale model (1 inch = 1 foot)
2. Use all or most of the 4'x8' material.
3. Use "glue-weld" construction.
4.Use paint, collage technique, pencil, or other technique to enhance the
surface of your sculpture.
5. Be mindful that the sculpture will stand in a large
public plaza and be viewed from all sides.
6. Submit a stylized 2"x2" logo in pen and ink for the letterhead
 based on the sculpture.
Models are due for evaluation by the Podunk Chamber of Commerce Selection
Committee on Thursday, October 30.
The screening and critique are open to participants.
