I teach a fine motor support group in my school. I see drawing and
handwriting connected in 2 ways.
#1. The same fine muscle groups are used for handwriting as for drawing.
Also for cutting, etc.
#2. I am working with my kindergarten teachers to use similar vocabulary.
For instance, when they teach to make a letter using a vertical line, I am
asking them to use the word "vertical line" or horizontal line, etc.
We are using the draw a person as a pre and post assessment as well as
observation by myself and the kindergarten and first grade teachers.
