As a first year teacher who entered this profession for many reasons with one
being more security than the advertising business I left, I'm pretty
concerned about this talk. I too am in jeapordy this year because I am next
to the last hired. I spent 15 years in a merit based system and the idea that
my hire date and time means more than my work is a tough pill to swallow.
I want to ask all on the list who are veteran teachers if this is a
cyclical thing that comes around every once in while or is this really the
life of an art teacher--living on the edge from year to year? Damn these
politicians who waste so much money and then cut education.
