I've done this with 8th grade for two quarters.
After talking to Bunki Kramer I stressed the following.
Interesting and stable form from all angles. Painting that follows or
accentuates the form. I wasn't so tight about the painting the first time and
most of the painting was, in my opinion, a little on the cheesy side. The
second time I tried to stress simplicity and following the form, and I really
got some elegant sculptures. But that's just my aesthetic.
I also pre-drilled a bunch of holes in each base so students could use
whichever holes they liked.
Never used anything but a wire hanger for these. I am going to try more
than one form on a base this time though.
