Recently I discovered a wonderful description of the way they teach art at the Detroit Institute of Arts children's program. The article was published in The Studio Potter, June, 2001. The author, Lisa Blackburn, and the editor of Studio Potter have graciously allowed me to republish the article as a web page. http://www.goshen.edu/art/ed/d-egg.html It is titled, "Dominic's Egg". It is about making clay creatures individually and in collaborative teams. It explains that the instructor is ". . . . facilitators rather than information giver." She tells how instructors get the ideas for the work to comes from within the children - not from their museum exhibitions. If you like it, send Lisa a note of appreciation. Marvin Bartel PS If you do have access to Studio Potter, it includes three photographs that were not available for the web site. ---
