I did this just theis year w/ 1st graders for the 1st time. We looked @ them,
noticed the bright, unrealistic colors, and the patterns- contrasting colors
on top of those base colors. Did a t chart- similar/different features.
Kids each cut out 2 simplified cat shapes from 12x18 paper- corners stapled
togehter- so one cutting got them 2 copies. Had them break the body parts
into sections- each a different color using neon paint.
Next class- had them use sponge dotters, paint stampers in whimsical shapes,
and sharpie markers to outline the legs, tail, facial features. THe kids had
a blast w/ this. THen they stapled and stuffed them. THey will be in the art
show. THis yr my ele show is on weds April 24. I'll hopefully be updating my
website w/ these and new images form the show as well.
Hope this helps.
