Susan, After several years of presenting the sculpture project Found
Objects, I have chosen something different. The reason for the need for
creativity is because we have no kiln in my high school. Although the
results were usually quite good, there were several problems. One was
getting the kids started. It was hard for them to get started. The other
one was finding really good epoxy which I would only use with high school
students or middle school. Some ideas that worked well with students
were.....a deck of cards, a broken plate, broken cd's, dominos, a toy car
taken apart and reassembled, etc. They seemed to work best when there was a
theme. Be wary of too many colors. I now do a white paper scupture. Most
of the students start with a folded heavy paper which creates four sides.
They make tabs on the bottom to glue to a black base. They cut out
shapes...like snowflakes and add on. They were truly beautiful and make an
appealing display when arranged together. Hope I was helpful. Eileen
