If you are using a regular clay body, most wire armatures would promote the
cracking of the clay around the surface of the wire. The wire does not
shrink along with the clay.

Suprizingly enough, some students of mine have had interesting success with
a very groggy clay body and nichrome wire. The wire worked to hold up the
form during the firing without slumping. There were great results.

Nichrome wire is costly though.
