Re: Purchasing student work

I really get annoyed with people who look to students as a cheap way to get
quality art. Every year, I have a teacher, or a parent ask me if I know a
student who could use a little extra cash...for that mural in the
bathroom....or something like that....
A couple of years ago someone interested in some of my students' (5th
graders) art work. After discussing it with the parents...who immediately
thought their kids were going to be rolling in dough...ha!...I convinced them
to sell a color copy. Generally if a student has a great piece...they should
keep it. HS and college another matter. Here in Houston, the Houston
Livestock and Rodeo will auction off 50 selected pieces of H.S art. Prices
go quite high...Over 130,000 for the grand award winner and keeps about
30,000 of it...the others go for 1,000 or 2,000 and keep half. ...the rest
goes in the kitty for other scholarships for elementary art etc.
Its nice to see they are getting prices that they deserve.
